Conference Venues

Transportation information for the individual conference venues can be found here.

The Faculty of Advocates is delighted to confirm that WBC2016 will be hosted within some of Edinburgh's finest and most historic venues. Some of these would not be available to the general public and we hope that the members of the international bars will appreciate the magnificent surroundings.

Edinburgh Castle, Great Hall
On Friday evening, The Lord Advocate, chief legal officer of the Scottish Government, will host delegates of the World Bar Conference within the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle. Built in 1511, this is one of Edinburgh's most magnificent venues.

The Skating Minister

Debating Chamber of the Scottish Parliament
Our Saturday sessions will take place in the main debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament. Delegates will sit in  the places of the Scottish legislature enjoying a view few will experience.

The Scottish parliament building opened in 2004, providing the first permanent home for a Scottish parliament since Parliament Hall some 300 years before.

The Enric Miralles designed structure was controversial in its design and delivery. With shapes based upon Henry Raeburn's Skating Minister (see below, from the collection of the National Gallery of Scotland) and an upturned boat, it is certainly unlike any of our other venues! Tours will be available after the conference sessions to allow delegates to see the merits of this unique building.
